FIRST AID LEARNING
APP AND WEBSITE
The First Aid learning app is an app focused on informing and saving the community with easy digestible small courses that allow users to have the tools and skills when it comes to a first aid emergency. The apps has a broad audience but particularly focuses on recent parents who have young children.

THE GOAL
A vast majority of the Australian population do not know what to do when it comes to a first aid emergency. Our goal is to design an app that will improve education on what to do in a first aid emergency in simple steps.
MY ROLE
UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery. Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

USER RESEARCH
Statistical research suggests that a large majority of Australians do not know what to do in a first aid emergency. This helped me to develop interview questions to gage why people are reluctant and what would make them engage and seek out the necessary training to prepare for the worst. The feedback I received through my research made it clear that it can be daunting and sometimes confusing, this lead me to build out an app to help breakdown the confusion and to remove the anxieties surrounding first aid.
DESIGN REFINEMENT
PERSONA 1

Tamsin is a recent young mother who works as a teacher in a regional town of Queensland. Having recent major changes in her life she wants to be prepared for the worst.
PERSONA 2

Bob is a key figure in his town, Bob helps run all the local events that happen in the community. Bob feels people look up to him and he wants to makes sure that he will be there for them in case of an emergency.
IDEATION
I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was specifically on making it easy for users to access different emergencies quick.

DIGITAL WIREFRAMES
After ideating and drafting some paper wireframes, I created the initial designs for the First Aid app. These designs focused on breaking down first aid training into small manageable steps.

USABILITY STUDY FINDINGS
These were the main findings uncovered by the usability study.
DIFFERENTIATION
Users having trouble understanding the difference between course and test.
CONTEXT
Users had trouble understanding the context of what the courses would cover.
READ & WATCH
Users wanted to read the steps but also watch the tutorial video at the same time.
HIGH-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including design changes made after the usability study.

CONCLUSION
One of the main things I learnt while building the app is that it is hard to replace the physical training you can receive when doing first aid. I found it was an important part of the user journey was to keep it simple and easy for the user to learn first aid.
